IN THE NEWS - DESIGN STUDENTS UNVEIL TIMES SQUARE BILLBOARD
Design Practicum students in the Spring of 2019 created a branding campaign and materials for the 10th Anniversary of the SSE. Students brainstormed how the UN brand would evolve to fit the 10th anniversary concept. Concepts were pitched and spring and executed over the summer in the form of branding, social media, documents and animations leading up the anniversary celebration at Wall Street the week of Sept. 26th.
The Fall 2019 Motion Graphic students picked up the campaign when measurements for the NASDAQ Bell Tower were circulated to the classes. The space clocks in at an intimidating 7 stories tall and 10,000 square feet. Students created storyboards and pitched to the directors at the SSE in two days. They completing concept revisions and turning around the full and finished project in a week. The billboard premiered at the square this afternoon at 4:20 pm (eastern time). The square attracts 41 million visitors annually.
“This was an amazing opportunity for our students,” said Melinda Posey, Associate Professor of Art at Union University. “There are handful of designers that see their campaigns executed to this scale and caliber of space and client. We are grateful for our continued international partnerships that allow our students have these unique professional experiences while they are part of our design program at Union.”
